Well, today is the last day of April (*sniffle*). I must say that my first month of blogging has been a very positive experience. I know that I don't always talk to everyone as much as I should; even then don't tell everyone every detail. Blogging allows me to fill everyone in at once and put in the details that fall through the cracks in conversation.

That said; April was good. School of Music, section leader, fall dwellings, summer plans, and a summer break in sight. My thanks this month goes out to Alice and Cameron for being my ONLY two fans of note (i.e. the only ones who commented). Also to the school of music, LHB, my friends Emily, Brittany, Greta, Aaron, Jon-Michael, Charlie, Derek, my cousin Blaine, the folks over at Ely Properties, Alice's SCU pals, and God.

Thanks for making it a great April.

This MONTH'S stuff that I AM:

A double-major, a leader, a follower, a lover, a student, a teacher, a friend, and a foe... wait, not a foe... hopefully ;-). and oh yea... proud owner of a new wallet.

Ok, so I really don't post enough. Maybe that's why no one reads this. Anyway, I'm mad at my bio prof because she has decided to shaft me in every way. I mean really, who takes off for spelling in an INTRO bio class! She's so picky. It just disturbs me because by looking at my last test, it is obvious that I know everything on there, but she finds ways to take off points and make me look stupid. I'll stop ranting now because I think you get the picture.

I've decided to take two bios next semester instead of a bio and organic chem. I made this decision based on the fact that I will be doing band next semester, as a section leader, and possibly pledging the band service fraternity. In addition, it will be my first semester as a music student. AND, the really good organic teacher is not teaching orgo I next semester, he's teaching orgo II. I think that those are more than good enough reasons to put off "the premed weeder class" a semester.

So my schedule is looking like: Intro music theory, bio 213, bio 325 (genetics), LHB, piano, and trumpet! Maybe with a little jazz ens. thrown in, maybe not. Actually I'm already at 14 without it, so probably not. I am trying to keep myself to 12 academic hours per semester so as not to overload myself with work! It's really workin' for me this semester. But then Jazz Ensemble isn't that much more work is it? Hmmm...

I'm looking forward to piano. I've never had any formal training, but have wanted to play for a while. Trumpet lessons will be cool as well. Longhorn band will be even better this year because UT is going to win the National Championship baby!!! Biology will be biology. Theory will hopefully be easier than beating A&M at, well, anything (maybe I want more of a challenge then that).

P.S.- My bagpipe gig went great the other week! Band-O-Rama (yes that's what it's called) is this weekend and I'm apparently playing my pipe solo for braveheart again... I think!

Well, I must apologize for not posting for so long (although I don't know who reads this yet!). Anyway, more big news! Not only did I get into the School of Music, but I also got the position of section leader in the Longhorn Band! Being a sophomore I thought that I, although prepared for the job, would probably just be trying out to get a feel for the audition process. You can imagine my wonderful surprise when checking the announcements last weekend! I'm really excited!

Also, I saw The Punisher this weekend. AWESOME FILM. So much creative death. I went to see it with JM and Aaron (and Aaron's sister, who was visiting). We were glued to our seats with thrilling killing!

I'm done with my Chem Lab for the Semester! YES! This means that I only have three more tests this year and then HOME SWEET WORK. I can't wait to get back to the hospital. I was going to take some summer school, but my parents reminded me that I have been at school since fall of 2002 and that maybe I should take some months off. I agreed whole-heartedly.

Well, I think that's all the news for now.

P.S.- COMMENT!!!!

Sunday, April 11, 2004

Easter was sweet. The Easter Bunny brought me the SFUPB CD (talk to me for details), which I have been forgetting to buy for the longest time. Also, I have my first Austin bagpipe gig on Wednesday. I am really nervous and excited at the same time. Nervous not only because it's my first Austin gig, but also because it was handed to me from the head of all University Bands! I got advised for the school of music on Thursday (pretty sweet), but my faculty advisor is going to be on vacation next semester (not sweet).

I GOT INTO THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC!!!! WHOO HOO!!!! ok so what does this mean? It means that now I'm double majoring in Music and Bio, PreMed. Crazy? Perhaps. That's ok though, I'm ready. I'm getting a BA in both so it gives me more room for each to overlap. I have to say that it made my day. Talk to me for more info, and post questions in the comments section (link below). I can't wait for Easter to go home and see my family. I might be going home late though because I might have to play bagpipes at a memorial service here in Austin. I'm excited this year because my family is going back to the reunion tower restaurant (it spins!). So... good bye.

Today I am NOT :
Getting just one degree from UT!!!

OK, I'm still working on this thing to get it perfect (I’m still learning CSS code). But so far no major mishaps, big bangs, or adulterated alliteration… wait. So at this time I’ll try to give a brief update of my life current happenings.

I’m a sophomore Biology, Pre-Med, major at UT Austin. I’m in the Longhorn Band and Longhorn Band Jazz Band and love every minute of it. I have a very beautiful and sweet girlfriend, Alice (I could talk about her forever so you’ll just have to chat with me if you want the entire story). My birthday is on the 18th of April (I’ll be twenty, aaahhh!).

I’d like to stop here to discuss my turning twenty. It doesn’t seem possible, to me at least, that I am two decades old. I paused the other day (primarily to delay studying) to think about all that has happened since I was born: five Presidents, lots of Olympics, disbanding of the Soviet Union, 80s pop, grunge rock, China goes commi, landing on Mars, War with Iraq (Persian Gulf Oil), War with Iraq (terrorism)… lots o’ stuff. It just seems that it’s gone by so fast lately. I’m almost done with my first year of college (sweet) out of four, plus the medical three or four (not sweet).

To continue with the update, I want to be a surgeon when I grow up, which seems to be getting closer and closer. I just pre-leased an apartment with my friend Charlie and my cousin Blaine for the fall. It’s really nice! It’s two floors (two bedrooms up, one down) has new hard-wood floors, all new appliances (including a microwave and washer/dryer), two balconies, and two bathrooms. So far it looks like I won’t be getting a balcony, but I will be getting the biggest room! There really isn’t a master suite since the biggest room shares a bathroom. I’m really excited about this whole apartment thing.

I’ll be going home (Dallas) for the summer to work at Methodist Hospital and spend time with my family and Alice. Alice goes to school in California, so I don’t get to see her much during the semester (once or twice).

Anywho, I hope to have a comments link on here sometime soon and all sorts of other features that will draw people to read my Naidheachd (I don’t know how to pronounce that yet).

Test Post
Welcome to my blog. I have to admit that I was reluctant to start a posting site to update my life to the world for fear that my gross multitude of admirers, fans, and followers would be disappointed if I didn't post often enough or if my life didn't have action-packed excitement in every sentence. I then realized that the afore mentioned probably don't care, and neither do I. So here it is, the product of countless seconds of labor and blahblahblah (not Gaelic for anything). Also, in case you can't read the title and subtitle Naidheachd is Gaelic for 'Latest News.' So anywho, I'll try to post on this thing daily, but it's not likely that I will be consistent in that effort.

PS- I don't know what § is, but it's what happens when you hold down Alt and press 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 - it makes a cool design that I happen to like a lot. More on that as it develops...
