Yesterday was very productive. While at work, I discovered how to add a poll to my blog (as if you hadn't noticed). Then, around mid-morning, I met up with Micah, a jr. volunteer at the hospital. He informed me that he had gotten permission to watch a surgery that day. After putting on some scrubs I taught him all of the intricacies of an operating room for a first time visitor (i.e. DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING). I introduced him to one of the surgeons and set him up to watch a colectomy (removal of a portion of colon). Then I met Paula Arzac for lunch (a usual thing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays because she's a volunteer there as well). We decided that she wanted to see a surgery too, so I set her up the same way as Micah. Paula, however got to watch a laproscopic cholecystectomy (removal of the gall bladder). In that surgery I got to see my first batch of gall stones (score!). After work, I decided that after I practiced trumpet I would make dinner for Alice and her mom. I made chicken kiev, scolloped potatoes, and salad with vinaigrette.  And for dessert- watermelon... mmmmm. In addition to all of this, I've been practicing trumpet everyday. Productivity, thy name is Taylor.

...and scene.

Today begins my last week at the hospital. Am I sad? Doesn't matter, there's no time! Next week I'm up at the HP helping Mr. Cruz out with summer band, and the week after until Thursday the 12th. That evening I drive down to Austin to get on a bus to go to Ingram, Tx. for leadership camp. I get back late on the 15th and have the 16th to adjust my things in my apartment (my parents will have to move me in while I'm gone). The 17th I'll be at a marching clinic for the better part of the day and the 18th starts Hell Week. Hell Week concludes the evening of the 24th with Gone to Texas and School starts the 25th. After having only a week and a half of school we have our first game: UT d. UNT ('d.' for demolishes). THEN I get Labor Day off....... and breathe.

weekend o' fun

This weekend was pretty awesome, and busy.  Friday after work Alice and I, my brother, Alice's Dad and girlfriend, and her youngest son went to the Ranger's game.  We met at Margret's house and after a short stint of conversation (while I tried to set up her new DVD player... which didn't work with her old TV) we were of to the game.  I was taking my brother and Henry (Margret's youngest boy) and everyone else was with Lee.  I was supposed to be following Lee but it felt like he was trying to lose me the whole way there.  By the time we got into the gate and sat down it was 6-1 Rangers... yeah.  My mortal weakness at baseball games is the food.  I can't get enough of that ballpark food.  By the 6th inning I had a stomach ache from the hotdog with grilled onions and pizza... mmmmm.  Needless to say, we won.

Saturday was exciting. Every summer, LHB's drum major goes around Texas hosting marching clinics for perspective members. Section leaders come as they can, and on Saturday I went out to J.J. Pierce to help out. It wasn't as bad as I'd thought it would be. I was the only trumpet section leader and had had visions of all the other leaders yelling at me for doing things wrong because this is my first year, I'm only a sophomore, and haven't even been to section leader camp yet.  Surprisingly, I didn't do to bad. I enjoyed talking to the incoming freshmen about what UT is really like and why band is so great and was glad to realize that I still loved UT and Band more than ever. After it was all over, everyone went to go eat at Humperdinks. I'd never been to Humperdinks before; it was pretty good. That afternoon I went with Alice and Lee to look at a new car for Alice. All through high school, she drove a '92 4-door Volvo. Now, however, she is the proud new owner of a 2003 Ford Escape! Yay for Ally! She's going to get leather put in as soon as she sells her old car. That evening we went to Prego's and then played Cranium over at my house... good times were had by all.

Sunday I slept in... hooah! Alice went and picked up some Burger House before we went over to her old house to look at some furniture up for grabs.  I took that time to call Blain (my cousin/ roommate #2) to talk about what furniture he was bringing.  I found out that he was in Spain with his older brother Reed, but his mom, Marty, told me that they have a plethora of furniture to choose from.  When we were finished there I went back to my house and glued my rear view mirror back on (it fell off from the Texas heat). Sunday evening, we went to Aunt Beth's house to celebrate my cousin's 10th birthday. I was glad to see all of my family again. It made me realize how much of a non-vacation I've had this summer. I haven't even been swimming! A little sad, but I guess I have money from work.

Either way, I only have two more weeks at the hospital, and then I'm helping out with HP summer band.  Then it's off to LHB Section Leader Camp, Hell Week, and school. Am I really that busy? Yes.

What a weekend. This weekend I took Brittany with me down to College Station to hang out with Cameron, Emily, and Jeff, who had also come down from Dallas. We arrived late Friday night and talk until midnight or so and decided that we were all tired from our weekly duties (school work and the like). The next morning we all woke up and fixed ourselves breakfast. I know that doesn't sound like the most intersesting detail, but there were some confused faces when I said I'd eat what few flakes of cereal were left by mixing the two. Doesn't everyone mix cereal every now and then?! Aparently not. We watched Veggie Tales Ultimate Silly Song Countdown and then watched Outbreak on TV while Brittany practiced. We went and saw Spiderman 2, which was just as good the second time as it was he first. After the movie, we went and ate at Swenson's where I had a fiesta salad (more salad than fiesta). We all ordered desert from a menu as thick as the dinner menu. Let's just say the description of what I ordered started off: "You start this mountain from the top and work your way down..." Needless to say, I didn't finish it. When we got back home, Emily took a nap while the rest of us taught Brittany to play Halo... the hard way. It wasn't so bad for Brittany in the earlier matches. Jeff (a.k.a. Hollywood) and I would go hunt for eachother while Cameron (a.k.a. CLH) taught Brittany (a.k.a. Wilshire) the finer points of two joysticks. The match summary goes something like this..

Taylor Killed Hollywood
Taylor Killed Hollywood.
Taylor Killed Hollywood.
Taylor Killed Hollywood.

CLH Killed Wilshire.
Wilshire killed CLH.

Wilshire Killed himself.

Our time playing Halo was well spent! I must give mad props to Brittany who held it down like a pro and didn't even complain once... thanks for keepin' it real B-dog, or should I say Whisp? Anyway, Emily soon woke up which meant it was time for MARIOCART! HOOAH! The highlight of our four+ hours on the tracks of mushroomland was the consistancy at which Brittany kept achieving last place. But that's last place two three other well seasoned gamers... again: mad props Wilshire. And oh yea... STUPID BABIES! We finished up the weekend by having breakfast at IHOP, no wait, the Kettle, no wait, the other Kettle. It took them way too long to make ou food, but it did give us a chance to talk some more (bonus) and our food was nice and hot when they brought it to us. Brittany and I had a nice time catching up on the way to and from Dallas, which was great since we haven't talked that much this year.

Many thanks to Cameron and Em for lending their couch for a weekend long in the works. Also, check my friend's blog's (in the links section) for their accounts of this weekend.

Alice comes home tomorrow! I'm so excited because I missed her so much that I planned a surprise for when she comes home... more on that to come...

It seems I finally got all of the bugs worked out of my new blogtastic template. I hope to add new and exciting things to make it my own soon, but for now, just this post. Thanks go out to Cameron for helping me with the comments. If you have any suggestions just let me know. I'm going to go get halo today I think, not sure though. What I really want to do is practice, but by the time I get my trumpet and head up to the highschool, Mr. Cruz is gone. I never have liked practicing at home either. What to do what to do what to do...

Ok, super-huge news: I GOT AN XBOX... and it only cost me $105!! I'll spare you the math details, but I bought my brother's old PSX and N64 from him and then traded them in at Gamestop for a mega-discount on a brand new XBOX!!! The games I got? Well, I obviously reserved my copy of Halo 2 (special edition). I bought Spiderman 2; sweet game, I would highly recommend it. That's all I have right now... seriously... one game. So, Cameron (and other gamers), what games should I buy for my new XBOX? I like first persons a lot, and rpgs; I don't like sports games. Suggestions?

Ok so it's been way to long since I've last blogged. So long, in fact, that I need some ideas about what to write. I know that's sad, but hey, "worthless," remember? So here's what this post is going to be about:

Should the first word after a typed sentance be one or two spaces from the period?

I am accostomed to tapping that oh-so-big-and-noisy spacebar twice acter every period, as you have read. I'd like some feed back on this "one space, or two" question. Which do you use and why? One for laziness, two for clarity, or is it that one choice is actually correct?

I'm workng in the Methodist operating rooms again this summer.

Alice is working at the Presbi operating rooms this summer.

Alice and I have loved spending more time with eachother and are doing great.

Alice's mom moved into her new house.

Matt and Cameron got engaged!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOORAY!!!!!!!!

Alice is currently in South Carolina... babysitting!

I'm going to visit Emily, Matt, and Cameron next weekend possibly with Brittany and Jeff!

So that's the news from June. I'd comment on it all except that it's all pretty simple and if I elaborated much more I wouldn't have an excuse to talk to you all more!

Ok I'm back! To all of those I offended by not posting for 2 months: I am so sorry. There's really no excuse other than I'm at work from 8 til 5, and go to bed at 10. That leaves only 5 hours for blogging, eating, spending time with alice and family. I haven't even started practicing trumpet or bagpipes on a regular schedule (shhh!). Needless to say, the word worthless comes to mind when I realize it takes less than 20 min to blog. I'l let this post stand alone and repost all of the news from the past month.
