is that the sound of a toilet or my blog?
Once again, it's been a long time since I've blogged- and once again I'm sorry.
That said, August has been a whirlwind of excitement. I finished up work the last week of July (::sniffle::). My last two weeks in august were dedicated to the Highland Park High School Highlander Band. I helped out with whatever there was to be done (including single-handedly re organizing the uniform room) and was even able to work one-on-one with the band a couple of times. The highlight of my week and several days had to be when some of the oh-so-mature boys in the band decided to make T-shirts that said " GO BACK TO COLLEGE >:("... You'd think I'd have been angry, but I actually thought it was funny. I realize that coming back to tech and teach people that knew you in high school might be a little weird (and apparently not well received) but I wasn't really coming back for them. I was actually coming back to brush up on my teaching skills before I went to LHB Section Leader Camp. Que sera sera.
Starting Friday the 13th I was in Ingram Texas at the Lazy Hills Ranch. Camp was anything but lazy. We were out in the fields marching or playing or eating or sleeping. That was it. That mentality just carried on into Hell Week. Eat. Sleep.Play. March. That's it.
So far being a section leader is good. I really enjoy teaching a lot, and it helps to know that "the section leaders are responsible for the level of excellence of the Longhorn Band."
School started off well. Genetics 325 looks like its going to be my only challenging class (but I have an English speaking TA!!!!!). Bio 213 is the easiest intro bio and I think I have and easy teacher. I thought that music theory was going to be harder. But there are some students (::cough:: voice majors ::cough::) that, bless their hearts, don't know a treble clef from a tuba. So, comparatively, I am a theory genius. But, as Alice reminded me, there are no comparative grades!
Piano is as hard as it is fun. I practice it everyday and am getting better. Reading bass clef is easier than I thought, as is learning the keyboard. It's still slow-going but fun. I haven't had my first trumpet lesson with my graduate student teacher but am looking forward to whenever that is.
One last thing. I have a cell phone for one purpose: to talk to people. Reading my blog is ok, but if you have not talked to me in more than like three weeks, then you are wrong. What am I trying to say? Call me! I like talking to people.
